Don't Stop Magazine - Behind the musician with Nadi Downs

June 11, 2024

"Embarking on my musical journey was like stepping into a world of endless possibilities, a world where my voice could transcend boundaries and connect with others on a deeply emotional level. From the tender age of four, I discovered the power of music, and I haven't looked back since. Whether it was belting out tunes in school plays or captivating audiences at local events, I found solace and joy in the melody.

My family's move to Germany during my formative years marked a pivotal moment in my musical development. Attending a British school on an army base, I found myself immersed in a rich tapestry of cultural experiences. It was there that I landed my first lead roles in school plays, igniting a passion for performance that would shape my future endeavors.

Fast forward to my teenage years, and my love for music only intensified. At fourteen, I began performing at various events, honing my craft and discovering new depths to my voice. It was around this time that I recorded my first song, a milestone that marked the beginning of my journey as a recording artist.

As I navigated the complexities of adolescence, music became my refuge, my sanctuary amidst the chaos of life. Inspired by powerhouse vocalists like Faith Evans, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston, I found myself drawn to the soulful rhythms of R&B and the raw emotion it conveyed. Artists like Brandy became my muse, their music serving as a guiding light in my own creative endeavors.

But it wasn't until recently that I delved into the enchanting world of jazz. Introduced to the genre through a band performance, I was captivated by its rich harmonies and improvisational flair. What started as a one-time gig soon evolved into a newfound passion, with jazz becoming an integral part of my musical repertoire.

Of course, no journey is without its challenges, and mastering jazz was no exception. The intricate melodies and complex rhythms posed a formidable obstacle, but with perseverance and dedication, I overcame them, emerging stronger and more versatile as a musician.

Looking ahead, I'm excited to share my latest projects with the world. From an upcoming EP to thrilling collaborations, there's plenty in store for my fans to look forward to. And for aspiring musicians, my advice is simple: embrace diversity, explore new genres, and let your creativity soar. After all, it's through experimentation and self-discovery that we find our own unique voice in the world of music."
