The Polaris Music Prize, presented by CBC Music, has revealed its 40 album Long List.

The Long List is where Polaris reveals the 40 nominated albums that will be considered for a given year’s Prize. This year’s Long List is presented by the Canada Council for the Arts. 

 The Long List includes 16 first-time nominees as well as three past winners (Jeremy Dutcher, KAYTRAMINÉ, Karkwa) and one past Polaris Heritage Prize recipient (Beverly Glenn-Copeland). In total, 238 albums were considered for the Long List by the 207-member jury this season. 

The 2024 Long List was unveiled during a takeover of Sonic Boom Record Shop in Toronto’s downtown west end. The public Long List reveal event also featured some nominees in attendance as well as a musical set by Polaris juror DJ MelBoogie.

The Polaris Music Prize Short List revealing the 10 finalist albums being considered for this year's Prize will be unveiled on July 11. More details on this will be announced in the coming weeks. 

The winning album will be revealed during the Polaris Gala, taking place Tuesday, September 17 at Massey Hall in Toronto. This will be the second year the Polaris Gala will be taking place at the iconic 130-year-old Massey Hall, Canada’s marquee live venue. Tickets to the Polaris Gala are on sale now via the Massey Hall website. 

The Polaris Music Prize awards $50,000 courtesy of Slaight Family Foundation, going to the artist who creates the Canadian Album of the Year, judged solely on artistic merit, without consideration for genre or record sales.
